Initially, Roselle Park was formed due to the lack of public services. modern sewage systems and poor schools of the neighboring cities. The first know settlement within Roselle was built by Samuel Williams in the early 1700s. Famously, Galloping Hill Road was used by the revolutionary war scouts to deliver messages back and forth between General George Washington and Governor Livingston. It was also the road travelled to the Battle of Connecticut Farms. The first store to ever have light in the world was Roselle Park's very own Stone's Store on Westfield Avenue. This store was powered by a prototype created by the wells-known Thomas Edison. The name Roselle derived from the founder John Pierre Roselle.
